How to Eliminate Doubt From Your Heart

Jul 13, 2015 | 22 comments

“…there was God’s promise to Abraham. Since there was no one greater to swear by, God took an oath in His own name, saying: ‘I will certainly bless you, and I will multiply your descendants beyond number.’ Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised.” Hebrews 6:13-15

This verse may not seem like a big deal, but at this particular time, Sarah, Abraham’s wife, was barren.

It was physically impossible for her to have children, but the Lord gave them the promise that one day, in His perfect timing, He would bless them with a child.

Now this was one massive and seemingly impossible situation.

For years and years, Sarah was unable to have children, and they were not getting any younger. There was absolutely nothing they could do about it.

But sure enough, against all odds, the Lord came through for them, and the miracle was done.

Even in their old age the promise spoken to them from God was fulfilled. Abraham did, in fact, have “descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore.” (Genesis 22:17)

Seemingly impossible situations are merely opportunities for God to step in and do seemingly impossible things!

If Jesus Christ is the only way, truth and life in this world, why then do we still doubt and question the words He whispers in our ear?

Why do we believe the lies of the enemy, or our opinions, instead of the God who created us and who can do the impossible?

Doubt Will Hurt You But This Will Help You

“But when you ask Him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.” – James 1:6

The more our flesh rises to the surface, the more we’re reminded just how weak we are.

The harder the waves beat against our earthly ship, the tighter we are to cling to our life-preserver, Jesus Christ.

But many times we tend to allow the waves of doubt to drag us further and further beneath the waters we’re called to walk upon.

Believing God will do the impossible seems so unlikely for us sometimes.

But as children of the Most High God, we need to trust in our Father completely and wholeheartedly!

His promises apply to our everyday lives, so it’s now time more than ever that we walk by faith and not by sight!

That’s why having a devotional life with God is so vital to our walk with Him.

The more we read His truth, the more we’re set free from the enemy’s lies and tactics of deception because God’s Word will never return void.

“…The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.” -Isaiah 40:8

Life is Fast But Faith Takes Time

Life here on earth seems to go as fast as it comes.

Just like the beautiful flowers that bloom in the fields and in the gardens, one day we all too will fade away.

Our earthly bodies will cease to exist because one day we’re going to pass into eternity.

But praise God that our spiritual bodies will live on forever and so will God’s Word!

The Word of the Lord is the truth, nothing but the truth, and will stand the test of time.

Even in a world that is so against Him, the Bible continues year after year to be the #1 best seller!

Having unwavering faith in God, trusting in Him completely with all that is within us, is the only true hope we have in this seemingly hopeless world!

Our physical bodies are slowly but surely fading away.

Our faith may sometimes be only the size of a mustard seed, but praise God that’s all it takes to move the mountains in our lives!

People will let you down, but God never will! His promises are yes and amen!

He gives sight to the blind, heals the sick, and enables the slave to walk free.

He’s a Father to the fatherless, and He alone has the supernatural ability to forgive all of our sins!

Brothers and sisters, how truly great is our God!

It’s so amazing to me that we will hear God’s voice loud and clear, get confirmation in His word, and then brush it off as impossible when we don’t see how it could happen.

God Promised But I Doubted

One thing God has taught me through the years is how faithful He truly is.

I had prayed for a car of my own for I don’t even know how long. God promised me He would provide one.

He placed a very specific car on my heart, and He blessed me with the exact one He had spoken to me!

Not only that, when I bought my new car, the dealership said they would withdraw a down payment from my bank account in 3 weeks.

I knew it was the Lord who blessed me with this car.

I knew it was the Lord who said He’d provide the money to pay for it.

But, as the weeks were flying by, and the money wasn’t there, I doubted God’s faithfulness.

About a week after I got my car, the Lord put an envelope with money in it on my heart, but I disregarded it. I assumed it was just my imagination or me losing my mind.

Sure enough though, just like He said He would, God came through for me.

Just one week before the payment was due, I found an anonymous envelope in my mailbox with my name on the front and the exact amount of money I needed to pay my down payment inside!

Even though I doubted, even though it seemed totally impossible for me, the Lord kept His promise and was faithful to His Word.

God did the impossible for me, and I stand in awe of just how faithful He is.

The time in between however wasn’t easy because I was so drawn to doubt, and did.

I was on my way to check out a different car that was at a different dealer. But God changed my path, leading me to the one He had ordained all along.

Why Don’t We Listen to God?

As Christians, God wants us to walk by faith and trust in the almighty work of His hands, but many times we don’t.

Many times we’re convinced only in the things our eyes can see.

When God says His ways are so much higher than our ways, He is speaking the truth!

He has shown me just what it means to be a child of God.

It’s not because He blessed me with my dream car, but because God showed me just what He can and will do for those who love Him.

God showed me what it means to give Him full and complete control. I know now that the gifts He gives are tenfold better than anything this fallen world has to offer.

God is faithful brothers and sisters! What seems impossible for us is never impossible for Him.

So if you’re in that waiting period now, please don’t lose hope.

Keep your eyes on God’s truth and stand firmly on the promises He gives you.

You were formed in the palms of His hands. They’re the hands that hold you and promise to provide for your every need.

Take heart today that no matter what you’re going through or waiting for, God is going to come through for you.

Our God is a God of miracles!

He will do exceedingly and abundantly more than we could ever ask or think! (See Eph. 3:20)

You need to walk by faith, convinced and confidently knowing that absolutely nothing is impossible for God!

Trust and believe that your God will fulfill every single promise found in His Word and every single promise He has personally spoken to you!

Let faith arise in spite of
what I see Lord I believe
But help my unbelief
I choose to trust You
No matter what I feel, let faith arise
Let faith arise
For my champion’s not dead, He is alive!
Oh, and He already knows my every need
Surely He will come and rescue me

God of miracles come
We need Your supernatural
love to break through
Nothing’s impossible
You’re the God of miracles…

Hi Amanda, I was very blessed with your testimony about standing in faith and struggling with doubt. The Lord knew I needed to read this and reminded me to not doubt Him, for He is able and willing to heal me. I am struggling with health issues at this time and it is sometimes very difficult to wholeheartedly trust the Lord. When I am in constant physical pain, I sometimes begin to doubt and wonder if He has forgotten about me. But right this moment He reminded me to hold on to keep believing and trusting and to wait a little longer. I was not going to read this blog, I was initially just going to put in a prayer request, but how amazing the Lord is, he directed me to your blog and I was truly blessed. I feel as if the Lord gave me a breath of fresh air, of renewed hope. thank you and God bless!

Thank you so much for your reply Maria! I will definitely keep you in prayer for healing, strength and the grace God promises to give us in our moments of weakness. Never ever forget that God does love you, hasn’t forgotten about you, has a plan for your life and what you’re going through right now will work together for good. Somehow, someway, God will come through for you! One of my favorite characters in the Bible is Joseph. God spoke a vision to him but everything that could go wrong did go wrong. But Joseph’s character shows how he trusted that God was with him….in the pit…in the prison…and eventually in the palace.

I’m sure he at times felt confused, angry, bitter….questing God’s faithfulness and character and goodness in his life….we all I believe go through seasons like that…but God will reassure us that He is still holding our hands in every season, through ever struggle, the calm and in the storms. He promises us that “He will never leave us or forsake us” even when we may not feel Him or hear His voice.

I will continue to be praying for you! That God will reveal Himself to you in a deeper more intimate way. That He will enable you by the power of His Holy Spirit to keep pressing forward. Know that “to everything there is a season” so whatever you’re going through, will not last forever! Never loose that hope and faith that God will come through for you and will do “exceedingly, abundantly, beyond all you could ever imagine”.

He loves you SO much Maria and will give you all you need to get through this difficult time. Stand on His promises…walk by faith not by sight…and trust and believe that He is with you every single day….He will never ever let go on your hand….for your name is written on His. (See Isaiah 49:16)

Let’s keep fighting the good fight my sister, for the battle is not ours…but God’s!

          God bless you!

When you go through rivers of difficulty,
          you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression,
          you will not be burned up;
the flames will not consume you.

I am a veteran of the Cold War. My physical and emotional issues that I am getting treated for at the Houston V.A., really isn’t going as well as I know it could. I suffer, like many, from severe depression & anxiety. To “make a long story short”, I periodically have suicidal thoughts. I’ve yet to act upon them. Yet, I remain “scared” that one day – I may. Thank you so much for commenting James.

First of all, thank you so much for your service to our country. It is because of your sacrifice and service that we are a free nation today. I will definitely be praying for you! I can relate to the suicidal thoughts as well. Before I surrendered my life to Jesus, I would cut myself and try to self-mediate with drugs and alcohol because of my depression and anxiety but whenever my temporary high came down, the pain and sorrow still remained. I want to encourage you if you aren’t already, to really read the Bible even if for 15 minutes every single day.

Sometimes my depression, anxiety and even the suicidal thoughts come back when I’m going through a difficult trial, but God always gets me through it and allows His Word to be like medicine, healing that darkness in my soul. Also, verbally quoting scriptures out loud and pleading the blood of Jesus over my mind helps me always when those thoughts come. We constantly are being attacked by satan and his demons…an enemy similar to the one you fought during the war, who wants nothing more than to destroy you and take you out.

So see God’s word and prayer to Him as your weapons against the enemy in the spiritual realm. Only Jesus Christ has the power over him but He gives us as His believers that same authority and power too! So no matter what James, don’t give in and don’t let the enemy win.

The Bible says we go from “victory to victory” in our walks with the Lord and that the battle belongs to God. It says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in your weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9) so rely upon God’s strength to get you through this time. He will never ever let you down so stand on the promises in His Word and take it moment by moment, day by day.

“You are more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus” so never quit. Never stop fighting the good fight of your faith because God still has a plan for you. He has appointed the day you will pass away, but until then…keep pressing forward through His strength and grace and finish the race He has you running.

A finish line does await you…heaven for all eternity is promised to us who believe in Him, so be encouraged. Life here on earth is as bad as it’s going to get for us so hang onto Jesus until He calls you home. Be strong and don’t give up. You are going to make it! My prayers are with you!

One of the Pastors we have on here would be so great for you to call and talk to. He is also a Veteran having fought in the Marines. Please feel free to call our Front Office at 310-352-3333 and ask for Pastor Dwight. He can encourage you and help you in ways only a war veteran can because I’m sure he has been where you are right now and can relate to what you’re going through.

      God bless you James!

I don’t see in any way how this post teaches any one to eliminate doubt from their heart. But the key is in Romans 12:2 – Be transformed by the renewing of your mind… You have to keep repeating your prayer/goal as if it were already true and keep playing it in your mind/visualizing yourself as having already received your prayer until the belief becomes so strong in your heart/subconscious
