What Did It Cost God to ‘Repair’ Us?

There’s nothing quite like the shock of a mechanic’s bill to jar you into reality.

Recently we took our Chevy Trailblazer in to have some engine work done on the cylinders.

Total cost, $911.

Wow, $911 is a lot of money!

Car maintenance is expensive, but without it, the car would sit in the driveway broken.

Like a car, we need maintenance, too.

Like your car, you need fixing.

At one time or another we will all need fixing when it comes to our salvation.

Otherwise, like a broken car, we will never ‘run right.’

Do you know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior?

If not, you’re like that broken auto in need of repair.

According to the Bible:

“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23

You hear there is a Sinner’s Special this week at God’s Garage.

You are not operating on all cylinders, you are spiritually sputtering, gasping and wheezing driving through life.

You need those sins purged so you can run clean.

You need a complete spiritual tune-up or you will always be operating at far less than your full potential.

Time to Repent

You decide it’s time to repent of your sins and visit the Master Mechanic. He looks under your hood and shakes his head.

“A Complete overhaul,” He says.

He doesn’t mess around and installs the Deluxe Package:

Fellowship with the Father, forgiveness of sins, deliverance from sins, redemption, righteousness, and eternal life.

When He is done, He hands you the Maintenance Directions that read: To take care of this body always do the following:

1.  “Rejoice always; pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”       (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

2.  “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.” (Luke 10:27)

3.  “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Cor. 10:31)

Awesome, you feel like a new person… because you are. But wait, the bill! This is going to be real expensive, you say to yourself.

And the Cost is…?

The Master Mechanic adds up all the work He has done on you, rings up the total and hands you the bill.

You close your eyes and gulp, expecting to pay some exorbitant amount you can never meet, and you would be right.

You open your eyes ….

The bill’s total?

Zero.

Not one dime.

Not a penny.

It’s stamped PAID IN FULL.

He says, “You owe nothing because it’s already been paid in full by my Son, Jesus, who paid the price in advance to fix you when he took your sins upon Him as he hung on the cross.”

The Greatest Gift ever

Tears well up in your eyes.

Your joy is complete.

Your new spiritual tune-up allows you to see the love of the father for the first time in your life, to realize that God could love you so much that He would sacrifice His only Son for you.

You just received the greatest gift imaginable, one you could never buy or repay no matter how much money you have.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:8-10

As you thank the Master Mechanic and go to leave, you look up at the shop sign, and you see something you had not noticed when you first walked in.

Right beneath the part that says, OPEN 24/7, 7 DAYS A WEEK, SINNERS ALWAYS WELCOME, it reads:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

Whosoever … that’s me!
