As the Holiday season ends and a new year begins we traditionally start creating a “New Year Resolution list.”
Gyms all across America will see a spike in new memberships, people will try to eat healthier, or quit a bad habit.
Unfortunately, most of these resolutions do not last.
As Christians, we tend to do the same.
We can make a list of all the great promises and great plans we tend to keep and do for God.
We try to impress Him with our big list, but in the process, we forget that God’s love is dependent on His grace and not our performance.
Scripture tells us that Gods love for you was settled by His son’s sacrifice on the cross.
“But God demonstrated His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
It’s not about what you can do for God, but what He can do in you and through you.
God’s Promises Are Never Failing
You can depend on God’s promises and hold on to His word.
You can trust Him to keep His promises to you.
Unlike our broken promises, His promises are something He always keeps.
Scripture tells us that He will never break His covenant, nor alter the Word that has gone out of His lips. (Psalm 89:34a)
God’s Word contains thousands of Bible promises waiting to be claimed in faith.
In Lamentations, He tells us that His mercies are new every morning.
“Through the lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is your faithfulness!” Lamentations 3:22-23
God understands that our flesh is weak, and He knows what promises we will break.
But even then He still loves us and gives us this promise:
“I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16
He also promises us a new heart and a new spirit.
“I will give you a new heart and put a new Spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put my spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statures, and you will keep my judgments and do them.” Ezekiel 36:26-27
Even when the mountains depart and the hills are removed, God’s kindness will never depart from you nor His covenant of peace will be removed.
Although we don’t intend to break our promises to God intentionally, He understands that our flesh is weak but our spirit is willing.
“Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Mark 14:38
One thing is for sure, we need to be steadfast and be in prayer so that we can honor our promises to God.
As the season ends and you prepare to make your “New Year’s Resolution,” remember that His promises continue and are everlasting.
Actually I have had some serious needs for prayer… one I have been in prayer about 37 years, one a year, and another one a good 15 years. No sign of PROMISES straight from the word of god coming to pass. No, he does NOT keep his word. And then theologians will do an hour and a half sermon explaining why it didn’t work. Bullshit. That’s what the American church is. A big pile of steaming make me rich quick for the pastors and buy me a new house and a jet bullshit.
Sadly, I have to agree to what the above post states. I can say this, I have studied for many years on how to claim promises.
1) I have asked
2) I have seeked
3) I have knocked
4) I have asked in Jesus name
5) I understand claiming promises is not about us it is about Glorifying God. The promises I have claimed would do that
6) The promises I claim meet the condition that what I ask would Glorify God, Bring Good fruit and it is also something that Jesus would ask.
7) I am saved and only God children can claim promises.
8) When I claim promises I do give thanks for the promise that is mine to claim.
9) When I claim promises I have confessed all of my sins and are not walking in sin.
10) I also when I claim a promise put an Amen to it which is stating we are in agreement. (Me and God)
11) The promises I claim are not asked with the wrong motives but are asked with Godly motives.
12) I understand that in order for a claimed promise to be answered it has to be part of Gods will for your life.
The promises I claim I believe fall into his will.
God does seem to get the free pass on what he does not want to answer when it comes to answering your prayers or the promises you are claiming when it is not what you ask for. I am wise enough to know what to ask for on what would be something that would fall into the above conditions and yet the promise is not delivered. I understand it is timing but in my conditions I do not have the luxury of time.
If God cannot deliver on the promises not a problem but please do not give us false hope by having them out there only not to be delivered. I still love God and believe in him but disappointed he has not kept his word to me.
