One day, during a stressful morning at work, I caught myself humming a child’s praise song.
Trust in the Lord,
With all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding,
In all your ways, acknowledge him,
And he will make your paths straight.
The song, “Trust in the Lord,” by Rob Biagi, is actually taken from Proverbs 3:5-6.
Why it popped into my mind during yet another deadline crisis, well, only God knows.
It’s a simple praise song with a simple beat, yet as is the case with God’s word, very powerful, very insightful and very humbling.
It’s hard not to think of God’s word — be it humming a children’s song or reading from the Bible — without pondering its life-changing implications.
Are You Trusting the Lord or Just Sayin’ So?
It got me to thinking …
Am I actually trusting in the Lord for everything, or only what I want to trust Him in?
Is God my private Santa Claus who I pray to when I want something or do I acknowledge Him, thank Him and pray to Him in all things?
Am I leaning on how I understand life to be or how God wants my life to be?
Am I anchoring this understanding on God’s wisdom, or man’s wisdom?
I thought about those words as I hummed the song …trust in the Lord.
Do I trust Him to guide my life according to his will and precepts?
Do I trust Him to make my paths straight or do I travel down my own long and winding road, only to double back after hitting several dead-ends and say, yes Lord, you were right?
Only then do I realize that trusting in the Lord is actually a blessing.
“O Lord Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you.” (Psalm 84:12)
Only then do I realize He is someone I can run to during a tough day at work.
“I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” (Psalm 91:2)
As the day progressed, I stopped wondering why I was humming the song and embraced it. The workload may not have gotten any easier, but it’s hard not to smile while humming that song.
In all your ways, acknowledge him
And he will make your paths straight.
Am I walking a straight path? Am I acknowledging Him, not only as my Lord and Savior but as my God, whose infinite wisdom has created that straight path for me to walk on?

Thank goodness for children’s songs.
Personally, I find that prayer really helps out a lot when I feel like I’m not trusting God like I should be. In my prayer time, I’m brutally honest with God. He already knows the things that I’m thinking so I might as well be honest with Him.
I find that when I am that God is always faithful to meet me exactly where I’m at.
