Four Reasons Why Every Christian Should Pray Right Now

Apr 28, 2014 | 5 comments

“O my God, lean down and listen to me. Open your eyes and see our despair. See how your city—the city that bears your name—lies in ruins. We make this plea, not because we deserve help, but because of your mercy.” – Daniel 9:18

When you look around our world, what do you see?

I don’t know about you, but I see just how wicked this world truly is becoming because of sin.

I see poverty, addiction, inequality, hate, greed, and immorality.

On the news, I hear about a rise in human sex trafficking, discrimination, drive-by shootings, violence, and even child pornography.

I see our Nation, known as the home of the free and the land of the brave, appearing to be completely falling apart.

We can look to our government, our president, and even ourselves for answers as to why, and for solutions to these problems, but only One has the ability to change the world.

Only One has the power to bind up the works of the devil. Only One has ears to hear our prayers, grace to forgive our sins and the power needed to restore our land.

Only God Almighty – the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, can start the much needed revival we so desperately need across our nation, and across our world.

So even though our world may be far from what God initially created it to be, as Christians, let’s dare to not lose hope.

Let’s refuse to ever give up.

Let’s have hope that:

  • Things will change

  • Lives will be transformed

  • Broken hearts will be healed

  • Those hungry will be fed

  • Those in sin will repent

  • Our country will be revived

  • Our church will be united as one voice, on fire for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ until He comes back again

We do have hope because we believe in a God who can do absolutely anything.

We keep the faith because we trust in a God who promises to help us. And we stand unafraid and unashamed because we pray to a God who is faithful to answer us.

Do You Know These Four Reasons Why We Should Pray?

1)  We Pray Because God Hears Us

“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” – 1 John 5:14

In God’s kingdom we need to remember that He has no favorites. We all are equally loved and equally heard because we stand equal at the foot of His cross.

God knows exactly what we’re going to say, every single thing we’re going to pray, before we even begin to speak them!

He inclines His ear to hear every single spoken and unspoken request we make.

He knows what we’re hoping for, longing for, sighing about, as well as the insignificant concerns we have every minute of every day.

Not only does God know them, but He also promises us in His Word that He will perfect them.

2)  We Pray Because God is Able to Answer Us:

“But Jesus looked at them and said to them, ‘With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’” – Matthew 19:26

When I read this passage the picture that tends to immediately come to mind is that of God Almighty dressed up as a super hero with His hands on His hips saying, “Da Da Daaaa! Here I Am to save the day!”

Oh how my mind cannot even begin to comprehend the power, strength, and ability of our Father in heaven!

We pray to God, because He alone is able to answer our prayers.

He has the power, strength, and supernatural ability to heal the sick, break chains of bondage, reconcile broken relationships, give hope to broken dreams, heal broken hearts, open the eyes of the blind, set the captives free, and everything in between.

3)  We Pray Because God is Faithful to Answer Us

“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” – Jeremiah 33:3

One thing I love about little children is that they never ever forget a promise made to them.

It will be a couple of days later and sure enough, they remind you about it.

They don’t assume you’re going to let them down or break your promise but many times we do.

Many times we just forget or weren’t planning on keeping it anyways; but that child still expects it.

They don’t expect you to let them down; they take you at your word and hold you accountable.

As mere human beings we are flawed and are not always faithful to our word but our God is faithful to His, 100% of the time.

When it comes to our relationship with our heavenly Father, we too are called to be like little children.

We too must hold on tightly to the promises He gives us knowing that one day, in His perfect timing, they will come to pass.

So pray with boldness and confidence knowing that your God is faithful. His promise to answer you according to His perfect will is yes, and amen!

4) We Pray Because God’s Plans For Us Are Good:

“God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly more than we could ever ask or think, according to the power at work within us”. Ephesians 3:20

God has and will continue to do good on your behalf so you should trust Him at ALL times.

That includes those trials of life that you’ll experience from time to time.

His Word assures us in Psalm 84:11 that, “No good thing will He withhold to those of who walk uprightly”.

God loves you more than you could ever begin to imagine and has your best interest in mind.

So don’t get discouraged when things don’t always go the way you want or expect them to.

Praying in the Spirit doesn’t mean we name whatever we want, claim it as if it’s already ours, and then expect things to go our way.

Praying in the Spirit rather means we make our requests known to God, and then obey Him, follow Him, and trust Him regardless of the answer that He gives us.

Trusting in God means you praise Him, and thank Him no matter what He gives you or takes away from you…believing that His perfect will, regardless of what it is…is His very best for you.

“As you get in sync with the will of God, you will see that prayer is not getting God to do what you want Him to do, but prayer is getting you to do what God wants you to do.”

– Pastor Greg Laurie

We don’t pray in order to convince God or change His mind, we pray in order to align our will and desires to His.

We pray and seek God’s will because He alone knows what’s best for us and for our future.

Key Takeaway

“If you want the Lord’s blessing on your life, there just isn’t any alternative to prayer.

Prayer is the way you defeat the devil, reach the lost, restore a backslider, strengthen the saints, send missionaries out, cure the sick, accomplish the impossible, and know the will of God.

Prayer is the hard-work business of Christianity, and it nets amazing results.”

– A Daybook of Prayer

God Almighty can and will do the impossible in our country and in our own personal lives, not because we are strong, but because we humbly admit that we are weak.

God will transform our lives not because we are perfect and have it all together, but because we honestly admit to Him that we don’t.

God will always give us an answer according to His will for our lives so never allow the lies of the enemy to prevent you from openly and honestly communicating with the Lord your God.

He does sincerely desire fellowship with you, a personal and intimate relationship through prayer that surpasses any sacrifice or offering you can make or give to Him.

We fall to our knees on behalf of our country making this plea not because we deserve it, but because of God’s grace and mercy; because He alone has the divine ability to intervene and answer us.

We have not because we ask not so let’s, “Join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” and pray. (Romans 15:6)

God’s love for us is so deep that He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross in our place. “How shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” (Rom. 8:32)

President Abraham Lincoln said, “I have been driven many times to my knees with the overwhelming conviction, that I had nowhere else to go.”

So let’s choose to go directly to our heavenly Father.

Let’s choose to stand in the gap for our families, our friends, our neighbors, our country and our fallen world through intercessory prayer.

Let’s fall to our knees humbly before our God having faith that He will intervene in a powerful way.

Always remember, direct access to our Savior, our Refuge, our Strength, our Redeemer – to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords – is only a prayer away.

“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.”

– 2 Chronicles 7:14

I love the picture of the large group of people praying over the one. It reminds me how we are a body…a church of brothers and sisters who aren’t expected to run this race all alone. But how God circles around us others to pray for us, link arms with us, and encourage us in the Lord…and we are to do the same. God is so good, Amen?!

All Christians should know the answers to the question, we are created to fellowship with Him, be connected as one with the Father, crying out for our nations on a daily basis….it sad that we are not all on the same page here. Can you just imagine what would happen in our nation is we ALL cried out and repented of our sins and turned from our wicked ways…..God would heal our land. That is His desire. I get so tired of hearing Christians say ” Well all this has to happen for the Lord to come back, that’s what it says in the Bible””Its just the end times”. I have never found that in the Word. If our nation would call out to God, He would be there, He would restore our land. We are a Christian Nation. Do you know that 86% of Americans say they are Christian!

Hi Linda! thank you so much for your reply! I say amen to that! That would be a glorious day in America if everyone truly did repent and cry out to God! I love how He is such a faithful and loving Father…simply waiting for His people to ask for His help so He can step in and intervene in a powerful way. That’s why it’s so important for us to encourage each other and teach new Christians to do just that! If nothing else, how to pray, seek His face, read His Word and surrender to His perfect will.

It is amazing how many say they’re Christians, but aren’t surrendered and committed to Him at all…but they are the ones we are to pray for! We can’t change them but God can! We don’t know their hearts, but God does! He can open their eyes completely and show them they are either for Him, or they take their stand against Him. (Matthew 12:30) I love that the battle truly does belong to our Lord! =]

Luke 21 talks about the Signs of the End Days and I too believe we as a world are living in them. But also, as you said, that revival for America is still possible! That God can change our Nation and heal our land! He can ignite His church before He returns for it, by setting us all on fire for Him like never before! “Is anything too hard for our God?” no way! =] =]

I pray God continues to bless you and use you as His hands, feet and shinning bright light in this dark, wicked and fallen world! Thank you again for your reply; let’s press on and pray hard! =]
