One Essential Thing To Do When You Feel the World is Against You

Nov 4, 2013 | 2 comments

“Guard my life and rescue me; do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in you. May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope, LORD, is in you.” – Psalm 25:20-21

When everyone is seemingly against you, when the things of this world – the cares and concerns of this life – completely overwhelm you, who or what do you run to?

As Christians, we are to run straight to the Lord our God – our “refuge, strength and ever present help in times of trouble.” (Ps. 46:1)

There will be seasons in  your life when you won’t stop smiling, but there will also be seasons when you’ll cry yourself to sleep.

You’ll have days when the sun is shining brightly, but other days when you’re taking shelter inside from the rain. (See Ecc. 3:1)

Even though the Christian life here on earth may have its ups and its downs, brothers and sisters, we still have hope. Our God is riding this roller coaster with us and promises to give us everything we need to endure, persevere, and finish the race.

God is our sole source of stability in this unstable world, because only He is the same yesterday, today and forever!

Somethings Never Change

We need to remember, brothers and sisters, that even though everything in and around us may be constantly changing, our God and His Word never changes.

Unlike our finances, our selves, and other people, our God is 100% reliable, 100% of the time.  So if we put our hope in anything but Him, we will get let down every single time.

It is not a matter of if a storm will come; it’s a matter of when a storm will come and when it does…then what?

We may not be able to control our circumstances but we can control our perspective about them.

When hardships inevitably come our way we can either say, “But what about this, but what about that?” or, we can say:

“But… I am trusting the Lord! I am trusting that He is for me, not against me. I am trusting that He is in control of my life and is working every single thing I am going through together for my good!”

As Greg Laurie has said, “A faith that can’t be shaken is a faith that has been shaken.”

By changing our perspective, we are putting God back in His proper place – high and lifted up, more powerful than our enemies, bigger than our problems, and fully in control of our lives.

We can either be moved by our trials, troubles and tribulations, brothers and sisters, or we can be moved solely by the Lord our God.

It’s so easy to magnify our problems instead of magnifying Him, but when we plug back into our power source our eyes start to refocus.

Key Takeaway

Let’s choose today to take our eyes off of our problems and place them back on our Jesus.

No longer are we to walk around aimlessly deceived by facades and lies, brothers and sisters, but in total confidence in our God’s abilities to do the impossible in our lives.

By placing our hope in Christ Jesus alone, we are relinquishing the control the enemy has over us.

By choosing to trust and lean on His understanding alone, we will gain insight, wisdom, and His divine perspective – not our own. (See Prov. 3:5-6)

So no matter who or what has come against you, please know that your Abba Father has not forgotten about you. He knows exactly what you’re going through and exactly how you feel.

He promises to be with you always; in the calm and in the storm; high on the mountain tops and down in the valleys below.

God will guard you and rescue you no matter what you’re going through, so take heart and rejoice as He whispers quietly in your ear…“Be still my child I will help you; trust Me…I Am here”.
