Family Dinners

Family dinners are short devotions that you can share around your dinner table at home. Come back here every week for new devotions that you can use to encourage your family to follow the way of Christ.

Family Dinner: March 26th – April 1st

REJOICE!” Easter Series

Open your Bibles to Zechariah 9 and read verse 9 together.

Our King was promised to come, full of justice, bringing salvation, humble and … riding a donkey. Our God is full of grace and truth promising us salvation. All He asks is that we surrender our lives to Him, trusting Him with our whole being.

Discuss the following questions together as a family.

1. What promise(s) of God do you hold onto for encouragement, strength and joy?

2. Why do you think Jesus would ride in on a donkey and not a bigger, stronger animal like a stallion?

3. Tell of a time when God promised something and you saw it happen.

Practical: Find one promise in the God’s Word, memorize it and store it in your heart for any time of need.

Family Dinner: March 19th – 25th

LIFE Skill: Getting closer to Jesus!

Open your Bibles and read Matthew 28, verses 18-20.

Jesus’ last words to His apostles that is recorded in the book of Matthew is of Him commanding them to go and make disciples, teaching them all that they have been taught by Jesus Himself. This is the same for us, we’re now to go and share our faith and teach others what we know about Jesus!

Discuss the following questions together as a family.

1. Has someone ever discipled you, 1 on 1? If yes, how was it? If not, why not?

2. How do you feel about discipling someone? Is there anything holding you back from starting today?

3. What makes discipleship uncomfortable?  Go!

Practical: Pray and ask God to point one person out for you to disciple them for one full year.

Family Dinner: March 12th – 18th

LIFE Skill: Getting Closer to Jesus!

Open your Bibles to Ephesians 6 and read verse 18 together.

We must be in constant communication with God. How do we do that? We talk to Him through prayer and He talks to us through His Word, the Bible. We’re in a constant war and we must remain alert, hearing and obeying our commander’s callouts!

Discuss the following questions together as a family.

1. Why is prayer so important? How has prayer helped you?

2. Share a time that you felt like you were praying for the same thing over and over again, but you felt like God wasn’t listening to you like you were praying to the ceiling. What did you learn in that time? Are you still in that time? How can you grow as a family and fight together?

3. Share a time that God answered a BIG prayer request. Were you surprised that He did? Why or why not?

Practical: Share your prayer requests and purpose to pray as a family as often as you can each week.

Family Dinner: March 5th – 11th

LIFE Skill:Getting closer to Jesus!

Open your Bibles to John 15 and read verse 5.

A branch will die on its own if it’s not connected to the vine that provides the nutrients for it to survive. Jesus says He is the vine and we are the branches because we can’t live without Him. In fact, we must abide in Him, or obey Him and do all according to His Word tells us. When we try to live on our own, it’s impossible to spread the good news of the gospel and to make disciples.

Discuss the following questions together as a family.

1. Why do you think Jesus calls Himself a vine and us the branches in this illustration?

2. How would you describe a person that abides in God?

3. What fruit is Jesus referring to that we would bear by abiding in Him?

4. Why is it so hard to do anything without Jesus?

Practical: Has the Holy Spirit convicted you with something this past week? Obey and apply what God is teaching you through His Word.

Family Dinner: February 26th – March 4th

LIFE Skill: Getting Closer to Jesus!

Open your Bibles to 2 Timothy chapter 3 and read verses 16 and 17 together.

Why should we read God’s Word every day? Because it is Words from God Himself. Reading the Bible is the manual of living life here on earth. He is our Chief commander, we must be in constant communication with Him. He has already spoken everything we need to know, we just need to read what He’s already said to us.

Discuss the following questions together as a family.

1. Why is it so important to read God’s Word every day?

2. How has the Word of God been profitable to you, how has it equipped you and grown you closer to Jesus?

3. What has God spoken to you this week through His Word? Share the verse(s) that ministered to you and why they did.

Practical: Start a daily (or weekly) family devotional. Purpose to do it together as often as you can together.
