Family Dinners

Family dinners are short devotions that you can share around your dinner table at home. Come back here every week for new devotions that you can use to encourage your family to follow the way of Christ.

Family Dinner: October 24th – 30th

Just Do It!

Open your Bibles to Romans chapter 1 and read verse 16.

When you love your sports team and they’re playing great and winning games, you can’t help but talk about them to anyone and everyone. It should be the same with Jesus because He has won the greatest victory by dying on the cross and raising from the dead! Don’t be ashamed of the gospel and what God has faithfully done in your life. Go and tell the whole world about Jesus and His great love!

Discuss the following questions together:

1. What’s a story that you’re proud of and are excited to tell everyone you meet?

2. What would hold you back (or what has kept you in the past) from sharing the gospel? Why?

3. Share of the time that someone shared the gospel with you and when/how/why you received Jesus!

4. Share of a time that you shared the gospel with someone.

Practical: Invite another family to Harvest Fest! Details: Tuesday night, October 31st from 5-9pm in the church parking lot: 19300 South Vermont Ave Gardena, CA 90248

Family Dinner: October 17th – 23rd

Trust Jesus even when you don’t understand!

Open your Bibles to Proverbs chapter 3 and read verses 5 and 6.

What lie are you believing that isn’t true? God commands us to trust in Him with all of our hearts, not just some of it, and especially when we don’t even fully understand our situation. God loves us wants the best for us, and He wants us to trust His ways are better than our own. God isn’t saying He’ll take us out of our hard situation, but He is promising to help us when we run to Him!

Discuss the following questions together as a family:

1. What does it mean to ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart’? How does this practically look like in someone?

2. What have you done when God has asked you to do something that you don’t understand why? What should you do in this situation? How did your decision go for you?

3. How do I know if I am believing a lie or not? What should I do if I am believing a lie or being deceived in life?

Practical: RUN to Jesus in prayer and in His Word when you help through a hard situation. God bless you families!

Family Dinner: October 10th – 16th

Remember Jesus’ Sacrificial Love!

Open your Bibles to 1 Corinthians chapter 6 and read verses 9 through 11 together.

We’re all sinners and are unworthy, incapable of making it to heaven on our own. Thanks be to God as He sent Jesus to the earth to rescue, save and redeem us wretched sinners. When we accept Him as our personal Lord and Savior, He washes us, He sanctifies us, He justifies us, all because of His blood shed and His work on the cross!

Discuss the following questions together as a family:

1. Share your testimony. How/When/Why did you come to know and accept Jesus?

2. What is something/someone that keeps your from focusing on the cross daily?

3. How does the cross impact your life? Does it impact your life daily, why or why not?

4. How does this impact others around you – at work, at school, at the store, at the gym, etc.?

Practical: Remember the cross, spend time with Jesus. Prioritize your personal devotional time and read your Bible every day this week!

Family Dinner: October 3rd – 9th

Stand firm for Jesus, don’t be conformed to the world!

Open your Bibles to Romans chapter 12 and read verses 1 and 2.

We’re to look to Jesus as our example. He didn’t let the enemy’s temptations lead Him astray, nor did He conform to the ways of the world, nor did He feed His flesh to its desires. Jesus presented Himself as a living sacrifice to the Father, living His life on earth perfectly according to God’s will, even to the point of death.

Discuss the following questions together as a family:

1. What does the Bible say about how we’re to fight against the 3 enemies that we face daily (the devil, the world and our flesh)?

2. How can we practically let our light shine at work, school or the grocery store? What are ways we could blow it out?

3. When we’re spiritually weak and feel like giving up, what can we do to regain our strength and to keep fighting on?

Practical: Purpose to let your light shine! Whether you’re at the grocery store, taking a walk in your neighborhood or at work, let the light of Jesus shine through you!

Family Dinner September 24th-30th

An Attitude of Praise

Open your Bibles to Psalm 139 and read verse 14.

Do you know how much God truly does love you?! God’s love for us is so great that the more we know God, the more we realize how great His love for us is.

Discuss the following questions together as a family!

1. What does King David mean when he said that he is (and we are) fearfully and wonderfully made?

2. What is something marvelous about our God? Make it specific as possible to your life!

3. When you go to praise Jesus, what scripture and/or worship song do you refer to? Why?

Practical: Invite a family over to your home for dinner this week and talk/read through next week’s Family Dinner Bible Study together!
