Gold – Heaven
The bible describes heaven as having streets of gold. Heaven is where God lives and all of God’s chosen people will live there for eternity. “The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.” – Revelation 21:21 But not everyone can enter heaven. Revelation 21:27 “Nothing impure will enter it, nor anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life”
Black – Sin
Sin is the problem that keeps a person separated from God. Sin is anything bad that you think, anything bad that you say, and anything bad that you do that displeases God. “ For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” – Romans 3:23. The bible also speaks of the punishment of sin. Romans 6:23 “…for the wages/penalty of sin is death…” Death means eternal separation from God. That means that anyone who sins/or is impure cannot be with God and therefore will not be able to enter heaven. Therefore sin is the problem, but there is a solution. God gave the greatest gift to all mankind. His name is Jesus. He is the only solution. Romans 6:23 “…but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Red – The Blood of Jesus
God came down from heaven and He became a man. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16. Jesus lived among us and while He was here on earth He had a mission. His mission was to bring us into a closer relationship with God the Father. He accomplished that mission by taking the punishment for our sins. He did that by dying on the cross for us. He died for us even though we didn’t deserve it. Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love towards us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” The good news is Jesus rose up from the dead after three days. Jesus is alive. Jesus is the only way to God. John 14:6 Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” God’s condition for us to enter heaven is to believe in the name of JESUS as Lord and Savior of our lives. Jesus also said this in John 3:3 “I tell you the truth; no one can see or enter the kingdom of heaven unless he is born again.”
What does it mean to be “born again”?
First, you need to Repent. Admit that you are a sinner and you need a savior. Repent means to turn from of all your sins and ask Jesus for forgiveness for them. The bible said that “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1John 1:9
Second, you need to Believe. Believe that Jesus died on the cross to save you because He loves you and He will to forgive you. Romans 10:9 says, “That if you confess with your mouth, “JESUS IS LORD”, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified (forgiven), and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved”. So repent of your sins. And believe and confess that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior. Believe that Jesus is alive and His spirit lives in us. Being “born again” therefore means being dead to sin but being made alive in Jesus. Romans 6:11 says, “In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive in Christ Jesus”. Romans 8:10 says, “But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And the spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you also. “ Therefore, the darkness of sin that once enslaved us has been broken by Jesus. And He has transformed us into a new being.
White – Salvation
Do you remember the whiteboards from school? Your teacher wrote the lessons on it and then erased it. That is what happens to our sins after we accept Jesus Christ into our heart and life. We become born again and all of our sins from our past, present, and future are completely washed away. You are a brand new creation in Christ! “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9 The bible tells us that this is what happens when we are born again. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, He is a new creation, old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new.”
Green – Spiritual Growth
The Bible says, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” – 2 Peter 3:18. God wants us to get to know Him more intimately like He knows us. How do we grow in faith?
You can grow by:
- Praying to God.
Prayer is talking to God anytime, anywhere just like you would your best friend over a cup of coffee at the local coffee house. In prayer you get real with God. You tell Him what’s going on in your heart, and what’s been on your mind. You pray to give Him praise, give Him thanks, confess your sins, and to ask Him to bless your life.
James 5:13-16 encourages us to pray because; “the prayer of a righteous man avails much.” That means the prayer of a man who believes in Jesus is powerful and effective. Now God isn’t your magic genie in bottle. He won’t give you every single thing you ask for when you ask for it. But, He will give you His perfect answer none the less – either a “yes”, “no”, or even a “not yet”.
- Reading the Bible.
The Bible is the written and living word of God. Joshua 1:8 says, “Do not let this book of the law depart from your mouth, meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Ephesians 5:17 tell us,
“the word of God is the sword of the Spirit.” We can use the word of God as a weapon against evil or against sin. God’s word protects us and guides us if we keep and meditate on it all the time. It also gives us encouragement when we are weak, sad or afraid.
- Going to church.
It’s very important you start attending a Bible teaching church. It’s important because by doing so we are taught the word of God to increase our faith in him and to fellowship with other believers of Jesus Christ. Hebrew 10:25 says, “And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near”. Be careful, though, there are many false prophets, false religions, and churches who don’t teach the entire Word of God verse by verse. Pray and ask God to direct you to the church He wants you to call home. If you’d like to find a local Calvary Chapel, you can click here and find a church who teaches sound doctrine near you.
- Serving God and using the gifts He’s given you.
1 Peter 4:10 says, “God has given each of you a gift from His great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.” Each of us must use whatever gift we have received from the Father to serve others. We must be faithful stewards of God’s grace.
- Sharing your faith with others.
We are commanded to share our faith to others so they too may know about Jesus’ love and salvation. In Mark 15:16 Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
Perhaps you can sense Christ knocking at the door of your heart.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and dine with him, and he with Me.” – Revelation 3:20. You can invite him in by faith right now. God knows your heart so it doesn’t matter exactly what words you use. Here’s a suggested prayer:
“Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life to you and ask you to come in as my Savior and Lord. Take control of my life. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Make me the kind of person you want me to be.”
