- We are grateful for the life of Christ
- He washed the disciples feet (John 13:15)
- He was a humble bondservant (Philippians 2:5-8)
- Because of that
- He ministered to a woman at a well and one caught in adultery even though it was not culturally acceptable (John 4 & 8)
- He raised Lazarus from the dead even though it was impossible (John 11)
- Because of that
- He was loving (John 3:16, 1 John 3:16 & 4:19)
- He knows that it is sometimes sacrificial to praise God (Hebrews 13:15, Matthew 26:30)
- We are grateful for the death of Christ
- We have been justified and reconciled to God because of His death (Romans 5:8-11)
- We have been given newness of life because of His death (Romans 6:1-4)
- We have been freed from the slavery of sin’s power over us because of His death (Romans 6:5-10)
- We can reckon ourselves dead to sin because of His death (Romans 6:11)
- We can thank God because of His death (Romans 6:17-18, 1 Peter 2:9-10)
- We are grateful for the resurrection and ascension of Christ
- Jesus commanded the women who saw Him raised first to rejoice, and they obeyed immediately (Matthew 28:9)
- Jesus spoke blessing over His disciples before He ascended, and they worshipped Him with great joy in the place of their most recent fear and pain (Luke 24:51-53)
- We are grateful this Thanksgiving because of the life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus
