  • Luke 23: 44-46
    • Hebrews 12:1-3 describes this moment
      • Jesus endured the cross for us as the Author and Finisher
    • Jesus spoke again to His Father
      • He knew His Father was with and for Him
        • His Father was near Him in His broken-heartedness and was the God of all comfort for Him (Psalm 147:3, 2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
      • He had practiced going to His Father in prayer His whole life
        • Prayer had become His default setting (Mark 1:35)
    • Jesus committed His Spirit to His Father
      • He had complete confidence that absence from the body was presence with His Father (2 Corinthians 5:8, Ecclesiastes 12:7)
      • He was meditating on scripture (Psalm 31 NLT)
        • Scripture guards our heart (Proverbs 4:20-23)
      • He uniquely gave up His Spirit—no one took it from Him (John 10:17-18)
    • In the depths of our pain, we have the same access to the Father that Jesus had
      • We can commit our spirit to Him daily
