- Philippians 4
- v. 6-7 The church in Philippi is anxious and in need of peace
- Fear is the enemy of our faith, and prayer is a weapon to guard our hearts and minds
- v. 8 Wrong thinking can lead to wrong living, and right thinking can lead to right living
- Our renewal starts with the way we think about things (Romans 12:2)
- Our thinking affects our being (Titus 2:1-2)
- According to scripture, there are two kinds of thinking (Romans 8:5-8)
- Worry is not productive but destructive—it leads to death
- Focusing our minds on spiritual things leads to life and peace
- Spiritual thinking is thinking like Christ, and He thinks on whatever is
- True
- God is true and His truth sets us free (John 14:6, Isaiah 26:3)
- The enemy is a liar and a deceiver, and his lies produce depression and anxiety
- Noble
- Nobility sets the standard of what is worthy of respect (Revelation 19:13-16)
- Watching and listening to ignoble things leads to death
- Just/right
- God is always right (Deuteronomy 32:4)
- We gain right thinking by knowing what God thinks about things (Matthew 6:33, 2 Peter 1:3)
- Pure
- Jesus was completely pure (1 Peter 1:19, 2 Corinthians 5:21)
- Pure thinking leads to pure living (Titus 1:15) and impurity leads to anxiety
- We have the power of the resurrection to take captive our thoughts (2 Corinthians 10:5)
- Lovely/friendly
- Jesus is altogether lovely (Song of Solomon 5:16)
- Thinking about others frees us from depression and anxiety (John 15:12-13)
- Good report/admirable
- Our testimony is a powerful tool in the hands of God and is under attack by the enemy
- True
- Spiritual thinking is thinking like Christ, and He thinks on whatever is
- v. 9 Putting these “whatevers” into practice WILL lead toward peace and away from anxiety
