Top 10 Reasons Why You Need to Invest in Your Spiritual Life in 2017

Jan 9, 2017 | 3 comments

“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.” – John 6:63

The biggest New Year’s resolution by far would be to lose weight and get in shape.

You see how packed the gyms are across America until about St. Patrick’s Day.

Statistics show that 90% of people stop going to the gym by March!

How can you go from total determination to absolutely none in less than 3 months?

Why does the zeal we had in the beginning, seem to fade out as the days go by?

The sad truth is, this change of heart isn’t isolated to weight loss and New Year’s resolutions.

The same can and often does happen with our spiritual life.

We accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and it’s as if we’ve been given new eyes.

We have a fire burning in our hearts for the Lord, His Word, and His church.

We can’t wait to spend time with Him in prayer and we’re the first ones in line for the local mission’s trip.

But, as years go by, the little light that shined so brightly starts to get dim.

We stop reading our Bible every day.

We stop going to church every Sunday.

Our prayers are only said before we eat a meal, and the thought of another outreach or opportunity to serve makes us feel overburdened and overwhelmed.

Why is it our motivation for keeping our physical bodies in shape, seems to mirror our spiritual walks with the Lord?

Is it really that important to have a solid walk with the Lord in the first place?

What is more important as a Christian, your physical body or your spiritual life?

Are You Building Physical Muscles or Spiritual Muscles?

“Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.” – 1 Timothy 4:8

The Apostle Paul stresses the importance of being trained up in godliness rather than been trained up in the gym.

One day our earthly bodies will break down, die, and decay.

But godliness is profitable for all things not only in this life, but eternal life to come.

Just like your physical body, your spiritual life does not mature and grow overnight.

You have to work at it.

There will be days you’re exhausted and just want to quit.

There will be times temptations and distractions will come.

But you have to keep your eyes on the eternal benefits by keeping an eternal perspective.

The Best is Yet to Come

“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” – Matthew 6:19-21

You have a glorious end!

Life here on earth is only temporary.

“And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.” – 1 John 2:17

You may be tempted to look at other’s lives and possessions and ask God when you’re going to get yours.

When you’re going to have your dream house, dream car, and dream body.

But God never promised us all these things here on earth.

He promised us, “Great is your reward in heaven”. (Matthew 5:12)

This is why it’s so important to invest in your spiritual life more than your physical life here on earth.

If you get into “temporal mode” you’ll become bitter, lose your joy, lose heart, and drift away from God.

As Christians, the best truly is yet to come!

We are to share the Gospel with the lost.

Grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

And trust Him to give us all we need this side of heaven.
