Family Dinners

Family dinners are short devotions that you can share around your dinner table at home. Come back here every week for new devotions that you can use to encourage your family to follow the way of Christ.

Our Father LAVISHLY LOVES us!

Family Dinner: April 30th – May 6th

Open your Bibles to Luke chapter 15 and read verse 20 together.

Our Father is compassionate, and forgiving. Our responsibility is to RUN to Him! Whether we need shelter, encouragement or to repent from our sin, we need to hastily and confidently run to Him! Our repentance allows restoration in our relationship with Him. He’s ready to forgive, receive and love us when we run to Him with a heart of repentance.

Discuss the following questions below together:

  1. What are ways for us to be constantly reminded of WHO our God truly is?
  2. Why do we often delay in running to our Father, when we need to confess and repent from our sin?
  3. Tell of a time that you delayed in running to God. How did you realize that you needed to run to Him? How did He receive and lavishly love you?

Put it into practice! Share your testimony! Tell someone of how God transformed your life when you decided to surrender and run to Him.

Run to your Father!

Family Dinner: April 23rd – 29th

Open your Bibles to Romans chapter 8 and read verses 15, 16 and 17 together.

Do you know that you can RUN to your Father? The more you get to know WHO your Father is, the more you realize that you need to run to Him! When we’re going through the trials of life, the enemy wants to trick us into believing that we can’t run to our Father, but He’s the ONE we should be running to first! If you’ve accepted Christ as your personal Lord and Savior then you’ve been adopted by God the Father as a son or daughter. He is our Father, He is your Father. He loves us no different than He loves Jesus, and He has gifted us His Spirit. We then have His DNA, are you looking more and more like Him until the Day of His return draws near? Do others know how GOOD your Father is?!

Discuss the following questions together!

1. Tell of a time that you ran to your earthly parent (or mother/father figure) for help. Why did you run to them? How did you know that you could trust them? How did they help you?

2. What are ways we can hang out and build a strong relationship with our Heavenly Father? Why is it important to hang out and communicate with Him?

3. Why should God’s love towards us define and transform us? Has it already, if so, how?

Put it into practice! Thank God through PRAYER together at least twice this week. Go around the table and thank Him for being such a GOOD, GOOD, FATHER!

The Same God!

Family Dinner: April 16th – 22nd

Open your Bibles to the book of Hebrews, chapter 13 and read verse 8 together.

Often times we forget that the God of the Bible is the same God we worship today! We are constantly changing with our struggles, our desires, and our lives, but our God… He never changes. The same God who died on the cross over two-thousand years ago is the same God we worship and love TODAY! This also means that His great love for us never changes. He always cherishes us as His own special children that He has rescued and redeemed!

Discuss the following questions together:

1. What character trait of God are you most thankful for, why?

2. Our God is steadfast and never changing. Why is this important to you and your faith?

3. Would something in your life change if Jesus was standing before you today? Why, what needs to change?

Put it into Practice! Take a moment and praise God together through prayer. Thank Him for being WHO He is!

  • Need some inspiration? Read through these Psalms of Praise!
  • Psalm 145, 147:5-9, 149
  • “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!” Psalm 150:6

Jesus ALWAYS shows up!

Family Dinner: April 9th – 15th

Open your Bibles to John chapter 20 and read verses 26 and 27 together.

Jesus showed up amidst one of His disciples having a hard time believing that He really resurrected from the dead. Jesus told the disciples many times that He would raise from the dead, but they still struggled believing. This is what our God does; He patiently and graciously meets us where we’re at, with gentleness. We get to worship the same Jesus today, because He never changes (Hebrews 13:8)!

Discuss the following questions together:

1. Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him,…” Why is faith or trust important to God?

2. Are you having a hard time believing something that’s in the Bible? Or have you had a hard time in the past? How did you go from an unbelieving to believing?

3. Is there a part of your life that you’re not fully surrendering to God, and not allowing Him to show up in the midst of your situation? How can your family help you in this?

4. What is a prayer request that you currently have, where you need more faith or trust in God that He’s got this under control?

Put it into Practice! Stop and P.R.A.Y. together as a family!

  • Praise God for He is good and worthy
  • Repent from sin
  • Ask God and submit your requests to Him
  • Yield willingly to His will for your life!

Jesus is alive, RISE UP!

Family Dinner: April 2nd – 8th

Open your Bibles to Romans chapter 6 and read verse 4 together.

We are reborn and a  new creation when we accept Jesus in our lives. When He died on the cross, He said “it is finished.” (John 19:30) because He has won, He’s our Victorious King! He knew He would RISE UP out of that grave, defeating death and able to grant us life. We must put to death ALL sin in our lives and walk in the newness of life. It’s foolish to keep the grave clothes on, like Lazarus, after rising up and being made a new creation.

Discuss the following questions together:

  1. Has God given you VICTORY over sin in your life? Stop, Pray and Thank Him!
  2. Take off the grave clothes, sin gives birth to death! What sin are you still flirting with?
  3. What are practical ways your family can help you RISE UP and walk in the victory in regards to sin in your life?
  4. What does it mean to “RISE UP” for the sake of salvation for Los Angeles? What are practical ways you can do this together as a family?

Put it into Practice! RISE UP! Take one practical idea from question 4 and put it into action this week!
