Dear Christian: Are You Being a Light?

Dear Christian: Are You Being a Light?

Ever drive down a steep, twisting country road in the dark?

Scary, isn’t it? Not only can’t you see where you’re going, but the potential for a catastrophic accident looms  ’round every bend.

Without lights, you can’t see the signposts warning of danger.

In much the same way, a country without evangelism faces the same predicament.

Its people travel down a dark road they can’t see or navigate, bypassing the road signs to salvation for the darkness.

What’s the Big Deal?

The importance of evangelism cannot be overstated. It lights the path before us, illuminating the Gospel of Christ, its high beams declaring salvation for all those who believe on the name of Jesus.

Where there is light, the darkness cannot hide and Jesus is the light of the world.

There is no other road to Salvation but through Jesus:

“I am the light of the world,” said Jesus, “Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the  light of life.”  (John 8:12)

What is an Evangelist, You Ask?

Simply, it is an ambassador for God. Yes, there are the more famous high-profile evangelists, like Billy Graham for example.

There are high-powered media evangelists such as David Barton of Wall Builders or Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council.

There are well-known pastors such as Calvary Chapel’s Chuck Smith and Steve Mays who shed light on the Word.

There are also celebrities who are evangelists because one day someone just like you illuminated their path to salvation.

One such man is Torrance’s Louis Zamperini, an Olympics sprinter who was a World War II hero, was shot down, and adrift at sea for 47 days.  He was captured by the Japanese which led to a traumatic turn of events that would fuel his appetite for vengeance.

But one day his dark road was lit up by someone like you, his wife in fact. He could finally see the signs of salvation, giving up his thirst for revenge. Today, at 94, he remains a strong witness to the power of Christ in a man’s life.

Our Nation

A country without “the light” is lost in darkness. Every country doesn’t necessarily have a high-powered evangelist, but every country does have someone just like you. Someone who is witness to the Gospel:

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.” (Matthew 5:4)

Who Me?

Yes, you are the ray of hope that shows road-weary travelers the path to salvation.

We fear witnessing because we are not biblical scholars or fluent of tongue. We are scared of being rejected or fear stumbling over words when witnessing to a co-worker or a neighbor or a person you come in contact with.

So what’s the solution? Just be you.

A light shines when it is turned on.

Your light shines bright through your love for Jesus; your light shines through your relationship with the Father, and by your deeds and actions toward others.

Your light shines because you carry the Word of God INSIDE of you!

So, let your light shine. There are an awful lot of people out there who just can’t see where they’re going.

I think that your words are so true Ani, we really do need to be a light to the world! I used to work for a bank before my current position and it was a tough working environment because all of my coworkers didn’t know the Lord. I was one of two Christians there.

I can honestly say that while yes there were times where I chickened out and didn’t share with a coworker, there were also a number of times where God used me to share Christ’s love with others. I know that it made an impact because years later, some of those people are still in touch with me and they share with me that they think about God every once in a while. So at least a seed was planted 🙂

Thanks for a great post Ani!

  2. Kelly, Q. D.

We have too be like Jesus, sharing the Gospel with the Lost, That is the reason we are still here, It’s not the Pastors assignment, we are being Fed & Trained to plant seeds for the Holy Spirit to increase the Harvest. I pray for a revial in the Body of Christ, that they would become doer’s of the Word & not hearers only…AMEN?

    • Ani Ma'amin

Amen. Especially pray for our Jewish brothers and sisters that God will take away the scales from their eyes…

    • Peter Guirguis

Totally amen to that Kelly, I can’t agree with you more!
